Word unscrambler with blanks: a worked example

Add one symbol per blank

TEA? has four tiles: T, E, A and one blank. It can make TEAM when the blank supplies M, or TEAR when it supplies R.

Use up to two blanks

Both ? and * mean one wildcard tile. LETTER? has seven tiles, including two Es and two Ts; the blank can supply one extra letter, not an entire word.

Choose full or shorter words

The default uses every tile. Include shorter words to use a subset, then refine with length, prefix or suffix filters. Matches use a general English dictionary, not a licensed game lexicon.

How to unscramble letters

How to use
Type your letters and select Unscramble letters. By default, each result uses all of your letters exactly once. Enable Include shorter words to also find words made from some of them.
Example: unscramble TEAS
TEAS makes EAST, EATS and SEAT. Include shorter words to find SEA and TEA too. Try example fills these letters and runs the search.
Anagram solver or word finder?
An exact anagram uses all your letters once, including every repeated letter. Include shorter words finds words using only some of them. For known letter positions and excluded letters, use our word finder.
Free English word unscrambler
No account is needed. This tool returns single English words, not multi-word phrases. Use ? or * for up to two blank tiles. Other punctuation and other languages are not supported. Results use our general English dictionary; check your game’s accepted word list.

How repeated letters work

Repeated letters
LETTER provides two Es, two Ts, one L and one R. Results cannot use more copies of a letter than you supplied. For example, TREE can be found with shorter words enabled, but a word needing three Es cannot.

Why are there no matches?

Check for an extra or missing letter and try including shorter words. Use letters A–Z and up to two blank tiles (? or *). Check your filters too; they cannot add letters to your tiles. Our general English dictionary includes rare words and may differ from the dictionary used by your game.

How do I find words with an unknown letter?

Put ? or * in Your letters for each blank tile, up to two blanks. TEA? can form TEAM when the blank supplies M, or TEAR when it supplies R. One blank represents one letter, not a sequence.

Can I use blank tiles or repeated letters?

Yes. Enter ? or * for one blank tile, up to two blanks. Each blank supplies one letter. Repeated letters need repeated tiles or blanks: LETTER contains two Es and two Ts.

Do prefix and suffix filters add letters?

No. Starts with, Ends with and Must include only restrict the results. Those letters must already be available in your tiles or supplied by blanks. Filters accept letters A–Z; put blank symbols in Your letters.

Why might my game reject a suggested word?

Each game chooses its own accepted-word list. These helpers use a general English dictionary that includes uncommon words, so a match is not a guarantee that your game accepts it.
